The I AM

Think of God. What do you see?
Think of Jesus. What images appear?
Maybe not an image, but a feeling in your soul.
I can’t settle on one image
Because My God, My Saviour Jesus
Fits into any emotion
Piece of knowledge
Feeling
Thought
Need
That I have
Not only is His grace sufficient
But HE is sufficient!

So let me try…

He is the King of King, yet was crowned with thorns
The Name above all Names, yet was the name they wouldn’t speak.
He is the gatherer of His people, yet was rejected and despised
Highly exalted, and was made of no reputation.
Every knee will bow, but He was not esteemed
Spotless lamb, made sin for us
Was rich, became poor
Worthy, but despised,
Immanuel, God with us, but even Jesus felt forsaken.
Lord of Glory, crucified in shame
Exalted yet humbled to death
The Author of Life, was put to death
The Resurrection and Life was laid in a borrowed tomb

He is the Lion of Judah, and the Lamb of God
Roaring yet meek, defender yet humble.
He is the Word, but opened not His mouth
Casting out demons, inviting me in
My Shepherd, my protector, my Adonai Master
The Open Door, my Rock and Fortress
He is my Jehovah Jireh Provider and Jehovah Rapha my Healer.

He turns tables in anger against evil
Yet says, ‘come, I am gently…you will find rest’
He is Elohim Mighty, my Jehovah Shalom peace
Alpha, Omega
Beginning and end
My past, my now, my tomorrow
El Olam – my everlasting God

His words speak constellations into existence
Yet He speaks softly to me
He is the Almighty Elohim Creator of the universe
Yet He knows who I am.
He writes law into stone, yet inspires man.

My picture of my Lord has Holy tension
Of opposites yet beautifully entwined
He is my patchwork
My El Shaddai of everything I need and am
He is the I Am
All of it
All at once
Everything
He says I am Yahweh Jehovah – “I am who I am”
