The Goodness of God through Pain

Posted by

The goodness of God is a cliche often said,
In times of pleasure and trouble, it comes forth in my head.
I attempt to understand the goodness of God,
With the pain and suffering in this earth I behold.
How does it work that there can be goodness in pain
Through the valley, through the fire, again and again!
It seems opposite, something that shouldn’t be,
That goodness can come out of evil, you see.
But God is faithful, and ever so good
To humanity in sin, He came amongst us and stood.
He breathed our pain, our sorrow and fears,
He understands deep feelings and profoundly cares.
Oh Lord when it’s tough, help me to see,
Your goodness and faithfulness poured out to me.
In the blackening dark may You be the light,
In my battles, march forward with me and fight.
Through the pain and mystery of life’s twists and turns,
May your name be glorified, and lessons learned.
I know my character will be shaped by you
The sharp edges filed, chiseled right through.
You are the master potter and I am the clay,
I trust your divine process day after day.
Help me to taste and see that you are good,
With Jesus by my side in a beautiful brotherhood.
Fill me with your Spirit, may your goodness shine through,
May my focus be continually on You.

May you be encouraged! God’s goodness is running after me! What a beautiful picture. His goodness is endless, often unexpected and overshadows all of my darkness. Like black and white, God’s goodness is in stark contrast to this evil world. He longs to shower us with His goodness – at the right time.

He feels our pain, He is sad when we are sad and hurt, but through it all our Saviour is there. And when we come out of the valley we will see how the hard times have shaped us, strengthened our faith, peeled away all of our self-sufficiency and pride, and required us to re-focus on God – our Father and friend. His goodness then comes into our sight.

Through the valley, and through the fire, His goodness is weaved through it all! Praise God.

2 Thess 3:3 – The Lord is faithful; He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.

Psalm 34:8 – Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh the joys of those who take refuge in Him.

Psalm 145:7-9 – Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness. They will sing with joy about your righteousness. The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. The lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all His creation.
