What’s your word for 2024?

2024 has arrived, and I like to settle on a word to help me keep my focus for the year. What is your word? What is a word that describes where you are at now, and where you would like to be by the end of this year? What word is God giving you? How is he going to grow you, develop you, lead you..? As you reflect, and lean into God’s Spirit, ask Him to give you a word, and a verse for the year. 

My word is THRIVE

Jeremiah 17:7-8 “Blessed are those who trust in the Lord. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”

God not only wants us to survive, He wants us to thrive. I have felt like 2023 was my year of surviving, and I did survive, I made it. And as I came up for air at the end of 2023, immersing myself in the Bible, I read a devotional that spent time dwelling in Jeremiah 17:7-8. The line struck me that God doesn’t just want us to survive, He wants us to thrive. He wants us to grow and fulfil the fantastic potential inside of us. He wants our wellbeing to be at top notch, and part of that is doing more to grow, learn and be the best version of ourselves.

So I believe God has made 2024 my year of thriving. Through difficulty He will be my strength, through tiredness He will be my energy, through sadness He will be my joy. When I rejoice, He will rejoice. When I feel loved, He will remind me of His undying love for me, and share in the warmth. When I feel accomplished his signature will be all through that satisfaction. He will remind me: “Not by might, nor by power but by my Spirit says the Lord” Zechariah 4:6. Through His help and guidance I will rise above these things that threaten to bring me down, I will be stronger for it and hopefully wiser. I will give Him all the glory for where I stand and where I go. His angels will protect me and my family, and together as I fondly call it “Bell-strong”, we will circle the wagons against anything the devil tries to throw at us.

Take time to reflect. Immerse in God’s Word, pray to Him that He will give you a word in your heart. Ask Him to help focus your personal direction for 2024. He is right there in it with you, and wants to do 2024 together, with you.
