Psalm 91 is one of my favourites. I love the imagery of God being our rock and fortress. a fortress is a pretty impressive place of safety and security. The imagery in this verse is powerful…we are to dwell in the shelter of the Most High. My God is big! Big enough for me to rest in his shelter. I have an image of a giant eagle sheltering it’s young with its huge wings. The verse goes in to say when we do that, we find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. On a hot scorching day there is nothing more glorious than resting in shade. It has me thinking I can rest because God is with me, over me!
True rest…is contentment despite the chaos. God wants me to simply dwell in his presence, soak it in, and find true rest for my soul. He wants to surround me and hide me away so I can rest from everything that tries to bring me down. Rest is rejuvenating – we need rest. He invites us, draws us, and loves us beyond measure. Thank you Jesus.
